use the abbreviations Ave., Blvd., St., Bldg., Pkwy., etc.<\/li>\n<li>When writing addresses in standard text, spell out the full word (e.g.,\u00a0<em>We met him on Montgomery Street.<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Use a comma to set off an individual\u2019s hometown when it is placed in apposition to a name (e.g.,\u00a0<em>Mary Jones, Reading, possible.<\/li>\n<li>All states may be condensed, except Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Ohio, Texas and Utah, which are never abbreviated in text.<\/li>\n<li>Lowercase the word \u201cstate\u201d in text (e.g.,<em>\u00a0the state of Maine.<\/em>).<\/li>\n<li>When writing the\u00a0<em>United States<\/em>\u00a0in text\n<ul>\n<li>Spell out when used as a noun (e.g.,\u00a0<em>I live in the United States<\/em>.).<\/li>\n<li>Abbreviate only as an adjective (e.g.,\u00a0<em>the U.S. Postal Service<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In full address blocks, you can use U.S. Postal code abbreviations.<\/li>\n<li>When a state is listed without a city in text, it typically should be spelled out in full (e.g.,\u00a0<em>I think California is a great place to live<\/em>.).<\/li>\n<li>In
