The Emerging Leaders Program<\/strong> is a leadership development program for first year students who have exhibited leadership potential. Participants in the program attend weekly interactive workshops focused on various leadership skills such as public speaking and time management. Participants are also paired with a faculty\/staff mentor and an upperclassmen mentor. The program runs in the spring semester from February until April.\u00a0 First year students are nominated for participation in the program by the faculty and administration of the University during the fall semester.\u00a0\u00a0 Interested students may also apply directly to the program by picking up an application in November.\u00a0 All students complete an application and interview process in order to participate in the program.\u00a0 The program is run by the Assistant Director of Student Activities with assistance from the Senior Assistant for Leadership Development.<\/p>\n

Freshman Government<\/strong> is an opportunity within the Student Senate. The Student Senate is the governing body of the students. First year students are invited to interest meetings to learn about the functions of the Student Senate. Freshman elections are held in December. Students are able to run for freshman senator positions and class officer positions.<\/p>\n

Orientation Leaders<\/strong> are selected during the spring semester to serve as an integral part in the Summer Orientation Program. First year students are eligible to apply. Applications are made available at an interest meeting held in December.\u00a0 Students must complete an application and interview process to be considered for the position.<\/p>\n

The Pavo Society<\/strong> is an opportunity for students to assist the Admissions Office in welcoming potential students to the University. Members of the Pavo Society participate in the fall and spring Open House and conduct campus tours throughout the year.\u00a0 First year students are eligible to join.<\/p>\n

Student Organizations<\/strong> abound at Saint Peter\u2019s. Currently we have 50 recognized student organizations<\/a>.\u00a0 These groups hold social, educational and recreational events for the campus community.\u00a0 Each group is run by an executive board of students.<\/p>\n

Traditional Events<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Super September<\/strong><\/a> is a series of social activities\u00a0scheduled in September to welcome new students to the University.\u00a0 Events held\u00a0include\u00a0Club Fair, Welcome Back Party, Mass of the Holy Spirit, comedian or musical acts,\u00a0and various other programs.<\/p>\n

Club Fair<\/strong> is an opportunity to speak with students from all of the student organizations and sign up as a member.\u00a0 It is a great opportunity to see all that is available and get involved in campus life.\u00a0 The first club fair is held in September during the second week of classes.\u00a0 The second is held in February and the last is held in April.<\/p>\n

Scarefest<\/strong> is sponsored by the Student Entertainment Board.\u00a0 It is a week of Halloween themed events held during the last week of October.<\/p>\n

Showtime @ Saint Peter’s<\/strong>\u00a0is an annual talent show themed after Showtime at the Apollo.\u00a0 Each year students showcase various talents and a member of the faculty or staff is awarded the Saint Peter’s Legend Award.\u00a0 The event also features Saint Peter’s version of the Sandman and KiKi Shepard.<\/p>\n

Turkey Bowl<\/strong> is held annually on the Monday before Thanksgiving.\u00a0 An all-female team from Millennium Hall competes against an all-female team from Whelan Hall in a flag football game coached by the male residents of those buildings.\u00a0 The event is ended with a turkey dinner for all.<\/p>\n

Winterfest<\/strong> is sponsored by the Student Entertainment Board. It is a week of winter and Christmas themed events held during the last week of November or first week in December.<\/p>\n

Evening of International Song & Dance<\/strong> has been a tradition since 1995.\u00a0 This event features the diverse cultures of our students through artistic performance.\u00a0 All acts are made up of our students and\/or faculty and staff.\u00a0 Past performances have included classical Indian dance, capoeira, native poetry, and belly dancing.<\/p>\n

MAAC Overnight Trip<\/strong> is a chance for students to show their school spirit by boarding a fan bus and supporting the men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams as they compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament.\u00a0 The tournament is normally held at the end of February or beginning of March.\u00a0 The tournament is hosted this year in Springfield,\u00a0Mass.<\/p>\n

Springfest<\/strong> is sponsored by the Student Entertainment Board.\u00a0 It is a week of spring themed events held in late March or early April.\u00a0 The late night carnival in the RLC is an annual event held during this week.<\/p>\n

Peacock Palooza<\/strong> is the final large scale event of the school year.\u00a0 The tradition began in the spring of 2000 when the class officers of the Class of 2003 decided it would be a great idea to have one last event to celebrate the end of the year.\u00a0 Each year the event features an outdoor concert featuring professional and student bands along with a barbecue and games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
