West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc., is the largest syndicator of Thoroughbred racehorses in North America and part-owner of the 2017 Kentucky Derby winner, Always Dreaming. The conversation will discuss what goes into winning a derby and the years leading up to a race. Finley and Conti will talk about the racing business in general including investing in a horse and how to choose the right horse. The discussion will highlight marketing techniques used at West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. and Finley\u2019s business tactics. Among other topics, Finley will share how it felt to be in the Winner\u2019s Circle at the Kentucky Derby and his predictions for this year\u2019s Derby.<\/p>\n West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc. provides tailored, institutional knowledge to partners so that they may experience the thrill of being in the Winner\u2019s Circle. Finley has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from West Point and a MSBA from Boston University; he served as an artillery officer in the Army for eight years and is proud of his service to America. Finley serves on the boards for The New York Thoroughbred Horsemen\u2019s Association, the Thoroughbred Charities of America, the PenFed Foundation and the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund, which provides scholarships to children of our nation\u2019s fallen military members.<\/p>\n<\/strong>The Kentucky Derby is often referred to as the most exciting two minutes in sports. At the next Saint Peter\u2019s Business Network event Terry Finley, president and CEO of West Point Thoroughbreds, Inc., will speak on the topic of \u201cWinning the Kentucky Derby: The Big Business of Horse Racing\u201d with James M. Conti \u201993, managing director at Goldman Sachs. The event will be held in the newly reopened Battello on the Jersey City waterfront on Monday, April 22 and begin at 6:30 p.m. with a networking cocktail reception followed by a discussion between Finley and Conti, concluding with a Q&A. All Saint Peter\u2019s University community members are welcome to attend this free event, with a suggested donation of $25 to benefit The Saint Peter Fund.<\/p>\n
Finley will be interviewed by James M. Conti \u201993 who is a senior sales leader within the Prime Brokerage Hedge Fund Demand Team at Goldman Sachs. The Demand Team maintains sales trading relationships with hedge fund clients on the Prime Brokerage Securities Lending desk. He first joined Goldman Sachs in 1984 as an analyst.\u00a0He was named managing director in 2008. Conti rejoined the firm in 2004 after seven years away working at two other firms. Conti is a member of Saint Peter’s University’s Board of Trustees and works with the University’s Center for Career Engagement and Experiential Learning, helping advise current Saint Peter\u2019s students.<\/p>\n
