Jersey City, N.J. – June 10, 2024 – Saint Peter’s University recently signed a transfer agreement with neighboring Hudson County Community College (HCCC), which will make it easier for students to pursue their bachelor’s degree at Saint Peter’s after their graduation from HCCC. The agreement facilitates the seamless transfer of credits from HCCC to Saint Peter’s, forging clear transfer pathways and ensuring students do not accumulate unnecessary excess credits at either institution.

The latest collaboration between Saint Peter’s and HCCC removes barriers that many students face when transferring from a two-year to a four-year institution, which is the discovery that some of their credits are not accepted at the new school. The agreement will also provide additional resources, including a transfer counselor, to ensure they have the support they need to successfully transition to Saint Peter’s.

“This collaboration signifies our joint commitment to empowering students with tools and resources to excel academically and thrive in their chosen field,” said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s University. “Our doors are always welcome to the graduates of HCCC and this agreement is not just about streamlining academic transitions, but it’s about building futures together.”

In accordance with the agreement, HCCC and Saint Peter’s will develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date course equivalency listings for HCCC’s associate degree programs and the B.A., B.S. and B.P.S. programs at Saint Peter’s, which will be reviewed annually.

Each institution will assign liaisons to facilitate their ongoing communication. Saint Peter’s will engage one of its employees to administer the day-to-day operations on the HCCC campus and HCCC will provide shared space and other services for Saint Peter’s employees.

“We are proud to solidify this connection with Saint Peter’s University, which is fitting as we are neighboring institutions standing together in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty,” said Christopher Reber, Ph.D., president of HCCC. “We look forward to seeing the partnership generate opportunities for our students as they take the next step toward earning their bachelor’s and graduate degrees. Many HCCC graduates continue their journeys at nearby Saint Peter’s each year and this agreement will be transformational for them.”

 # # end # #

For more than 150 years, Saint Peter’s University, inspired by its Jesuit, Catholic identity, commitment to individual attention and grounding in the liberal arts, educates a diverse community of learners in undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and professional programs to excel intellectually, lead ethically, serve compassionately and promote justice in our ever-changing urban and global environment.
