It makes you realize that others less fortunate around you can be easily helped with the help of the community, which makes you want to do more.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 Karen Casteneda, &#8217;18<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div id="2115d144f7" style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<h3>Men and Women for Others<\/h3>\n<p>Our Jesuit tradition informs our students\u2019 commitment to service and progressive activism. Through Campus Ministry\u2019s community service program, students have a wide array of volunteer opportunities to serve those in our community that are most in need.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a id="2115d144f7" href=\"#amreads\">America Reads<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id="2115d144f7" href=\"#junk\">Junkyard Dogs<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id="2115d144f7" href=\"#kitchen\">Campus Kitchen<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id="2115d144f7" href=\"https:\/\/huangshizhaopin.com\/mission-integration-and-ministry\/community-service\/#food\">Food Pantry and Clothes Closet<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id="2115d144f7" href=\"#calendar\">Community Service Calendar<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a id="2115d144f7" href=\"#athletics\">Student Organizations\/Athletic Teams<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Annually, more than 600 students volunteer on 50 or more community service projects at Saint Peter\u2019s and in the Hudson County community. The results are astounding. During the past year, Saint Peter\u2019s students contributed more than 10,000 hours of community service and supported various nonprofits in Hudson County.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"amreads\">America Reads<\/h3>\n<p>The America Reads Program is a federally funded tutoring and enrichment program began in 1997. Students who qualify for federal work-study may apply for a tutoring position. Tutors work in the afterschool enrichment program, Team Walker, at Public School # 22. Tutors work with children from grades 1-9, providing homework help, and enrichment. Tutoring shifts are Monday through Thursday, 4pm-6pm.<\/p>\n<p><!--\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-388\" src=\"https:\/\/huangshizhaopin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/blogs.dir\/85\/files\/2015\/02\/sandwich-line-e1423852437718.jpg\" alt=\"sandwich-making\" width=\"740\" height=\"493\" \/>\n--><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"junk\">Junkyard Dogs<\/h3>\n<p>The Junkyard Dogs is a service group that seeks to foster pride and care in Jersey City by physically cleaning up its streets and spreading awareness of the need to maintain and respect Jersey City. Clean-ups take place monthly, weather permitting.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hFOQOYWqDNw?si=nO-YSArIV3RPpiq_\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"kitchen\">Campus Kitchen<\/h3>\n<p>The Campus Kitchen at Saint Peter\u2019s University located on the 2nd floor of the MacMahon Student Center, recovers unused excess food from cafeterias and dining halls and repackages it into healthy meals to be delivered to people in Hudson County who are food insecure. Shifts occur in the afternoon on Monday through Friday, 2:30-5pm. Weekly, students are able to visit the Pantry\/Closet to receive nonperishable and perishable food, clothes, and toiletries. Additionally, the Food Pantry and Clothes Closet are open to the public by appointment on the 3rd Saturday of each month between the hours of 2pm and 6pm.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 id=\"calendar\">Community Service Calendar<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to the above mentioned projects, Campus Ministry schedules miscellaneous service events as needed by the Hudson County Community.
