Guidelines for Tutoring Appointments
Students
- Students are expected to bring course materials, such as assignments, syllabi, or textbooks to their sessions. They should also practice academic skills or attempt their assignments outside the tutoring session.
- Students should actively engage in the session, such as asking questions, being honest about their needs and expectations, having the tutor quiz them on content, or revising parts of an assignment.
- Students should not book sessions during class time.
- Students should arrive on time for their sessions.
- Students should uphold academic integrity during the session.
- Students should maintain appropriate behavior during the session.
*Students who do not attend (no-show) or cancel two consecutive weekly appointments will be removed from the schedule and will have to meet with the Care & Outreach Coordinator to discuss their needs and book future appointments.
Tutors
- Tutors should model problem-solving skills and offer opportunities for the students to practice them.
- Tutors cannot guarantee grades but should offer strategies and resources to help students improve their comprehension of course material and academic skills.
- Tutors should not complete an assignment or quiz/test/exam for the student.
- Tutors should arrive on time for their sessions.
- Tutors should be patient with students and encourage them to participate in the session.
- Tutors should maintain appropriate behavior during the session.
