Curriculum Overview<\/h3>

The curriculum of the MSW program will align closely with the accreditation standards established by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The program will encompass foundational courses providing students with essential knowledge and skills, as well as advanced specialized courses designed to deepen their expertise in key areas of practice. Core coursework will include:<\/p>

  • Social Problems and Programs:<\/strong> Understanding the historical, political, and economic contexts shaping social welfare policies and practices.<\/li>
  • Social Policy Analysis:<\/strong> Developing critical analytical skills to evalsuate social policies and advocate for effective changes.<\/li>
  • Human Behavior and Social Environments:<\/strong> Examining theoretical frameworks for understanding individual and community behaviors within diverse social contexts.<\/li>
  • Theory and Practice I, II, and III:<\/strong> Progressive development of essential social work practice skills, from foundational engagement techniques to advanced clinical interventions.<\/li>

    Practicum Education<\/h3>

    Practicum education will serve as a cornerstone of the MSW program at Saint Peter\u2019s University. Students will engage in experiential learning through supervised field internships across diverse settings such as healthcare facilities, schools, social service agencies, and community organizations with a focus in Hudson County. These placements will be strategically aligned with the students’ areas of specialization, ensuring that their field experiences are both relevant and impactful.<\/p>

    The practicum will enable students to apply classroom learning in real-world environments under the supervision of experienced professionals. It will allow students to develop essential professional competencies, such as client engagement, assessment, intervention planning, case management, and ethical decision-making. Each placement will be structured to ensure progressive development, starting from foundational skill-building and moving toward advanced, autonomous practice.<\/p>

    Students will participate in integrated seminars alongside their field placements.
