In the course, students acted as “cyberinterns” and worked in teams with Dr. Kalia and industry experts as mentors using an online/cloud career focused platform, iQ4. The goal of the course is to enable students to analyze realistic case scenarioses and identify the depth and breadth of the cyber security challenge from multiple perspectives, preparing them for the complex challenges facing today’s organizations and managers.

Cybersecurity Has Some New Changes in Terms of Responsibility https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/2018/06/18/cybersecurity-new-changes-terms-responsibility/ Mon, 18 Jun 2018 17:30:38 +0000 https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/?p=829

Many cybersecurity experts are claiming that cybersecurity itself is an issue that pertains to the C-suite and board. This challenges the atypical viewpoint of how companies have traditionally treated cybersecurity issues as an IT issue.

“If you went to a cardiologist, you wouldn’t want him to work on your brain,” says Richard Frankel, Of counsel at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, P.C. “It’s the same with IT and cybersecurity. The IT guys are great at setting up computers and programs…but they’re not cybersecurity experts.” Ruskin Moscou is a law firm that specializes in a wide range of issues, where Frankel’s practice focuses on… Read more

The Pros and Cons of Big Data in Cybersecurity https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/2018/06/18/pros-cons-big-data-cybersecurity/ Mon, 18 Jun 2018 17:25:34 +0000 https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/?p=827

The things that make big data what it is – high velocity, variety, and volume – make it a challenge to defend. And it presents a tempting target for potential attackers.

But big data technologies are also being used to help cybersecurity, since many of the same tools and approaches can be used to collect log and incident data, process it quickly, and… Read more

Germany Faces ‘Ticking Time Bombs’ in the Form of Cyberattacks https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/2018/06/18/germany-faces-ticking-time-bombs-form-cyberattacks/ Mon, 18 Jun 2018 17:19:53 +0000 https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/?p=825

BONN, Germany—It was a cyberattack that showed just how vulnerable Germany’s digital infrastructure truly is. In the summer of 2017, a group of hackers infiltrated NetCom BW, a regional telecommunications provider with about 43,000 subscribers in the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany’s southwest. Given the company’s modest size, it may not seem like a prime target. But NetCom BW is a subsidiary of EnBW, one of Germany’s biggest power utilities. EnBW is part of what the government regards as its critical infrastructure: companies that operate crucial public services, from electricity to telecommunications to health care.

When news of the breach emerged in mid-May, a spokesperson from EnBW said that the hackers only gained limited access to the provider’s networks for a few minutes before its IT team fended off the incursion. A serious cyberattack… Read more

The Steps of a Cybersecurity Kill Chain: How to Identify and Defend Against It https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/2018/06/18/steps-cybersecurity-kill-chain-identify-defend/ Mon, 18 Jun 2018 17:12:31 +0000 https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/?p=823

A kill chain consists of seven identifiable steps (as defined by Lockheed Martin) which cyber criminals go through in order to gain access to an organization, typically by compromising a legitimate user. These steps are followed in order to extract useful data from a victim or their organization.

It’s important to understand how the kill chain works because timing is everything — for both the good guys and the bad guys. According to Humphrey Christian, VP of product management at cyber risk management provider Bay Dynamics, the earlier a company can detect

The kill chain steps are as follows:… Read more

Reconsider Cybersecurity: Instead of Malware, Focus on the Data https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/2018/06/18/reconsider-cybersecurity-instead-malware-focus-data/ Mon, 18 Jun 2018 17:05:12 +0000 https://huangshizhaopin.com/academics/graduate-programs/master-of-science-in-cyber-security/?p=821

“It’s time to change the way we think about cybersecurity.” That was the message I heard repeatedly in conversations and at keynote addresses at the OpenText Enfuse 2018 conference I attended in May.

“Security isn’t just around malware anymore,” said Lalith Subramanian, VP of Engineering for Analytics, Security and Discovery with OpenText. “It’s about data leakage.”

The amount of data companies use and store has become so large and cumbersome that it is more difficult to correlate and control. Organizations are too often careless in their behavior surrounding data. This leads to data seeping out of the company in different ways. Malware is still a threat, yes, but now information is siphonessd through compromised privileged access… Read more

Russian hackers are notorious for their hacking skills, but one American says he hacked a Russian cyber gang at just 15 years old.

Eric Taylor, who went by the nickname Cosmo the God, also posted personal information of celebrities and government officials, including Michelle Obama, former CIA director John Brennan, Kim Kardashian and Tiger Woods.

The government eventually caught up with Taylor and he…Read more
