The Master of Higher Education (M.HEd.) program in General Administration offered through the School of Education is designed to prepare students with a general understanding of higher education. A distinct feature of the master's degree program is the curriculum. The curriculum (Addendum A) advocates principles of best practice in higher education at the MA level following The Council for the Advancement of Higher Education Programs (CAHEP). The guidelines were submitted to the Council for the Advancement of Higher Education (ASHE), and are based on the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (2015) endorsed by the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC); Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS).<\/p>\n
The 33 credit program provides students with a strong understanding of higher education theory, research; data based decision making, administrative practice, policy and strategic prioritization. This strong curriculum foundation develops students into informed leaders who understand the challenges that face higher education requiring educators not only adapt to change but also engage in developing a vision of higher education for society. Students have the opportunity to work with fellow master's students in required courses as well as with doctoral students both inside and outside of the classroom. This provides for enriching and interactive experiences for students from diversified professional backgrounds with diversified career goals. Integrative curricula designed by faculty ensure this endeavor.<\/p>\n
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to take on\/enhance professional and leadership roles in a wide range of higher education settings, including: community college, four year college and university administration, state and national public policy agencies, government offices, professional associations, regional and coordinating bodies and accrediting agencies. They assume a wide variety of roles and work on key activities such as admissions, student affairs, distance learning, student recruitment and retention, diversity management, enrollment services, advising, administration and policy analysis.<\/p>\n
Rigorous evalsuation, supervision and analysis of the Master of Higher Education (M.HEd.) program in General Administration is embraced to ensure students achieve at a high level and complete the program in a timely manner. The existing program, procedures and practices will be examined to continually evalsuate the effectiveness of the program and make informed programmatic and instructional decisions on an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n
The program will be delivered fully online\/on-ground. Student demands will dictate the program offering online\/onground. Students take two courses per semester (fall, spring, summer) for two years.
